2010 Survivor Celebration Information
The Komen Richmond Affiliate cherishes and honors all Survivors . . .our heroes. These women and men inspire us and light the way in our efforts to eradicate breast cancer as a life threatening disease. We promise to celebrate and honor, as well as, provide encouragement and hope to the women and men living with breast cancer — from the newly diagnosed to long-term Survivors, their families, and friends. If you or someone you know has recently been diagnosed with breast cancer call our office at (804) 358-7223 or send us an email at info@komenrichmond.org to receive a special packet of information.
Survivors are given special recognition at our annual Komen Richmond Race for the Cure® sponsored by Zeta Tau Alpha and ReMax. ZTA and ReMax celebrate our survivors by hosting a VIP Tent on Race Day and provide the “In Celebration Of” and “In Memory of” back-signs for all participants to wear.
If you would like to volunteer for the Survivor Event Committee, assist with Health Fairs, or be part of our Komen Educators please email us at info@komenrichmond.org.

Survivor Story
Shelley Picou moved to Petersburg, VA almost 3 years ago from the west coast, where she was an active volunteer with the Puget Sound & Tacoma Komen Affiliates. 28 days after the completion of her radiation treatment, she participated in her first of three Komen 3 Day Walks. She has kept walking by joining us at the Richmond Race for the Cure. Shelley has been a very dedicated volunteer Komen Educator, sharing her personal story of breast cancer and the importance of early detection at many educational events. In addition to volunteering with Komen, Shelley has been actively involved with the Paint It Pink Petersburg project, LINC’s Crater Advisory Board, and her church.
Komen Richmond is looking for Survivors and Co-survivors to share their breast cancer story of how it was detected, how you felt, and how you battled your way back to good health. We will highlight personal experiences throughout the year on our website and in our e-newsletter in order to educate and inspire others to get involved in the fight against breast cancer.
If you are willing to be interviewed, please click here and submit your story for consideration.
We want to hear your story!
